It is difficult to appreciate the size of the Giant Sequoias because neighboring trees are so large. They invoke an awe inspiring, ant-like perspective in every visitor that walks the forests where they grow. The largest of the Sequoias are as tall as an average 26-story building, and their diameters exceed the width of many city streets. With a height of 275', a Circumference of 103' and a diameter of 33', the largest Sequoia is called the General Sherman. The oldest living Sequoias were nearly 1,000 years old when Christ was born, making them nearly 3000 years old today! They've seen civilizations come and go, survived countless fires and long periods of drought, and continue to flourish -- inspiring generations of admirers.
Tragically, less than 15% of original giants remain standing today. We recently came to know the owners of the largest privately owned grove of Sequoia Redwoods; they've adopted a policy that completely protects the remaining live old growth Sequoias on their land, but over 30 of the giants from this grove were blasted down using dynamite in the 1950's. In that era, loggers sought for the best heartwood and only utilized the bottom 50-90 feet of the tree; they the left top parts of the trees right where they fell. Those parts of the trees remain there to this day and will simply burn to ashes someday when the next forest fire burns through the area. We have negotiated the opportunity to utilize a few of these remaining sections that were left behind half of a century ago. Last week we took delivery of 2 of the largest logs in the history of Daniels Wood Land. They measured 10' in diameter, 9' tall, and weighed 30,000 pounds each. As huge as these logs are, they came from the part of the tree that was 130' in the air before loggers blasted it down in the 1950's! They're estimated to be about 1500 years old.
We have one remaining section in inventory. Here's a video of us unloading it just last week! Gives us a call to secure this 30,000 piece of world history for your custom project today!
