We constructed two faux trees for a child's shelter in Southern CA. The first was a realistic oak tree which was cut in half so it could be mounted onto the wall. The canopy extended 16' across the ceiling, immersing the children into the outdoor environment. The foam tree was covered with bark made from a hard coating and then painted.
The second tree was built as a puppet theater and had a space to mount a flat panel display. A hallow design with a large cutout allows performers to entertain children while hidden from view. A mounting was incorporated into the design to carry the load of a flat panel display. As with the other tree, foam and hard coat construction was used before final painting occurred.
