In May 2009 we built this knight to promote the highly anticipated Electronic Arts (EA) video game Dante‘s Inferno. Set for release in early 2010, Dante‘s Inferno is a game adaptation based on the famous poem, about a soldier who defies death and fights for love against impossible odds. The Italian mercenary Dante returns home from the wars to find that his beloved Beatrice has been murdered, and her soul pulled down into Hell by a dark force. He gives chase, and vows to get her back. For weapons, he wields Death‘s soul-reaping scythe, and commands holy powers of the cross, given to him by Beatrice.
The knight was milled and sculpted from EPS foam, hard coated, and meticulously painted. The armor was hand-sculpted, first in clay, then molded and cast using fiberglass and resin. Leather belts were sewn and added to the knight, while a chainmail coif adorns his head. We had only 3 weeks to complete this piece and deliver it in time for E3 as part of the enormous EA booth built by Premier Displays & Exhibits.
