In November 2006 we were contracted by Ultra Productions, an LA-based promotion company, to build a half-ship facade depicting Disney's Black Pearl. It was constructed for the DVD release of Disney's second film, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. Our crew only had four days to design and build the ship, complete with a platform and staircase, as well as install and theme the scene in Hollywood. The ship was carved from EPS foam using various tools including a 7' chainsaw and was sprayed with a polyurea coating before final painting. Spectators were invited to walk the plank into a giant water tank to receive a pre-release DVD of the film.
